Parameterize vision sensors easily

Machine vision solutions, which are often required in industrial production to ensure quality, are in many cases very complex. With the O2D5xx series devices, IFM is now launching a series that is designed to significantly reduce the effort required for programming and commissioning. Parameterization and programming is done with the Vision Assistant. This intuitive software guides the user step by step through the parameterization process. Standard applications can be easily implemented with ready-made wizards. The so-called Logic Layer enables image-based programming and logical links. For experts in image processing, an advanced mode with numerous additional functions is included. To avoid interference from extraneous light, the new vision sensor uses a special process: In quick succession, it takes up to five images with different exposure times. The software can then select and evaluate the image with the optimum exposure. The O2D5xx is also robust against ambient light thanks to an integrated daylight filter. With the aid of an optional polarization filter, interference caused by reflections on metallic surfaces can also be avoided. The O2D5xx with integrated LED illumination is available in two versions: The RGB-W variant has four illumination segments in the red (625 nm), green (525 nm), blue (453 nm) and white spectral ranges. With the RGB-W variant, color discrimination of objects is also possible without using a color sensor. For this purpose, individual images are taken with different illumination. The infrared variant operates in the infrared (850 nm) spectral range and is therefore not visible to the human eye. The vision sensors are suitable for inline quality control in industrial manufacturing processes. Typical examples are contour detection of injection molded parts or checking whether a hole has been threaded. Such applications contribute to an improvement in quality and can positively influence OEE and thus economic efficiency.
