High-Speed Video Systems for Extended Recording Times

High-speed video cameras provide accurate and detailed image capturing for the analysis of fast-moving processes in industrial and research settings. Yet to effectively capture intermittent events with absolute precision, extended recording times are often required. High-speed video usage scenarios with extended recording times include the observation of turbulence in liquids and gases, medical diagnostics, as well as motion analysis in sports. Extended high-speed video recordings are also useful for production-line monitoring and process optimization in industrial manufacturing and quality control.

In the past, the recording of high-speed video over extended periods was difficult because the generated data could not be saved fast enough. But today, thanks to the cutting-edge technology, it's possible to record high-speed footage over minutes or even hours.

With the new MotionBlitz LTR1 (short for "long time recording"), the company Mikrotron offers a complete high-speed video system for extended recording times. Featuring a light-sensitive, compact camera from the EoSens series, this system can produce video recordings at 506 fps (frames per second) up to 165 minutes in duration at full 1280 x 1024 pixel resolution. And recordings can be made at rates of up to 30,000 fps with the integrated ROI (region of interest) function, which allows stepless adjustment of the image area's position, resolution, and recording speed. The high photosensitivity of 2,500 ASA for monochrome imaging and 2,000 ASA for RGB imaging means you can handle complex requirements while also minimizing lighting expenses. Switchable non-linear dynamic range adjustment delivers dynamics of up to 90 dB and ensures detailed images even with large contrasts between dark and light. In addition, thanks to the integrated Full Camera Link interface with a high data transfer rate (up to 680 MB/second), images from the camera can be saved on a PC's hard drive in real-time using a ring buffer. All images can be recorded in BMP, TIF, DNG, JPG, PNG, or AVI formats.

The windows-based MotionBlitz Director2 control software features a remarkably easy-to-use interface that includes an entire range of convenient functions. Among these is the intelligent ImageBlitz trigger system that accurately records the crucial time window before and after the trigger signal. The LTR1 comes as a ready-to-use, complete system including a 19" rack PC, compact 1.3 megapixel EoSens-series high-speed CMOS digital camera, Camera Link frame grabber, Camera Link cable, and control software.
